Exposed: Examining the Generational Impact of Maternal Substance and Alcohol - Use on Family Health and Social Outcomes

ThreeGenerations.png

The study included a multi-generational (parent, children, grandparent) analysis of provincial administrative data. Families with evidence of substance-use during pregnancy were included in the “Exposed” group and compared to a matched control group in the following areas: demographics, socio-economic status, disease prevalence, and system usage. A policy analysis included a comprehensive literature review. Stakeholders (policymakers, frontline workers, academics, and persons with lived/living experience) were consulted in various capacities, such as issue identification and brainstorming policy responses that are needed in New Brunswick.

This work was supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and ResearchNB under a contract with the New Brunswick Institute for Research, Data and Training at the University of New Brunswick.
